Las Vegas

We spent a whole day in Vegas. We started with a very American (in size and taste) breakfast at Peppermill diner where we “admired” their red neon-lit gas-fire cocktail lounge.

Next we went to Shelby’s where an old guide called Austin, a huge admirer of Shelby, showed us around their small museum and workshop.

There are lots of billboards advertising lawyers for injury claims around Las Vegas – significantly more than we saw in Chicago or on country roads up to this point.

We went to Bellagio to see it inside – quite impressive, expensive shops and kitschy decorations but also a very nice flower setup in one of the rooms. In another room they had sculptures by Richard MacDonald, a British sculptor now living in US, using bronze to make some very interesting pieces mainly of ballet dancers. And we got to meet him personally!

Mirage turned out to be our evening entertainment – we had dinner at Costa then went to see a Cirque du Soleil show based on the songs of The Beatles which was amazing, the best of their shows we’ve ever seen (maybe because this is their home and shows are coreographed with this stage in mind?). When we got out we walked to Treasure Island to see the volcano eruption then to Caesar Palace to see Fontana Trevi.
